Submit Nominees for MSPRA's New School Communicator Award

Nominations for the "Gerri Allen Outstanding School Communicator Award" will be accepted until JUNE 30, 2017. This newly instituted MSPRA award will annually recognize a practicing Public Relations professional in a public school, district, educational agency, service center, or intermediate unit for outstanding leadership in school public relations and communications.

The award will provide a platform for working PR professionals and members of the school community to recognize leaders in the school PR field and thank them for their service. Use the Outstanding School Communicator Form to nominate a deserving practitioner by June 30, 2017. The winner and nominator will be recognized at the annual MSPRA conference. Help us recognize those who share what is right about public education by nominating a school PR professional today.

Koehler Named Gaskins Award Winner
He will accept the award at the NSPRA Seminar

Ron Koehler, APR, Assistant Superintendent for Organizational and Community Initiatives and Legislative affairs for Kent ISD, is the National School Public Relations Association's (NSPRA's) 2017 Barry Gaskins Mentor Legacy Award recipient.

The award recognizes a practicing school public relations professional for: outstanding efforts in mentoring colleagues new to school public relations; providing counsel and advice on job success; and assisting colleagues in their professional development by creating or providing programs and activities designed to improve PR skills and knowledge.

It is given in memory of Barry Gaskins, APR, an NSPRA past president who was known for his deep commitment to supporting and mentoring colleagues as well as for his passion for public education. In the spirit of the award, Ron will designate a mentee of his choice to receive a scholarship to the NSPRA National Seminar.

MSPRA 2017 Annual Conference Delivers

Thanks to all who attended the annual MSPRA Conference on March 16 and 17 in Ann Arbor.  More than 70 pariticipants, vendors and speakers joined us for our two-day annual professional learning event.

Based on comments, it was a success....from discovering how to be indispensable to winning in the court of public opinion, from successfully hosting a Twitter Town Hall to training staff in how to produce ADA compliant websites, from peer reviews to peer-to-peer networking, from getting the news media's attention to helping the public detect fake news, from grassroots organizing to organizing during a crisis....we covered it all and still found time to enjoy some job-alike therapy.

We're looking forward to getting the written conference evaluations and will use then to plan our next professional learning event, which is scheduled for Thursday, June 29 in Lansing.  Mark your calendar now.  Details to follow.
